I know I gave you an orange mango smoothie recipe last week, but this is the best green smoothie recipe I’ve come up with and it’s the one Eric and I drink every morning, so I wanted to share it with you!
This weekend we were busy hosting brunch for my brother-in-law’s birthday and some of my recipes got real life taste-testing experience. We devoured my paleo Dutch Baby topped with strawberry chia seed jam, scrambled eggs, sweet potato breakfast potatoes and fruit. It was delicious and a wonderful time to gather with the family.
On Sunday we spent time outside and preparing food for the week and then grilled outside for dinner. We had to take advantage of the gorgeous weather!
After going, going, going all weekend, I was excited to get back into my green smoothie routine on Monday morning. The reason this is the best green smoothie recipe is because it’s just the right amount of sweetness from frozen pineapple and bananas, a healthy helping of greens, plus good fat (to keep us full) from coconut or almond milk and a boost of nutrition from spirulina and chia seeds. It’s thick and creamy, like eating dessert for breakfast, but without the guilt!
How do you drink your greens in the most delicious way possible? With fruit, of course! And in my opinion, the best fruit to blend into a green smoothie is pineapple. Frozen banana is also important, because when blended with a bit of almond or coconut milk, it helps to create the creaminess you might get from yogurt in your smoothie.
I love my routine of drinking this green smoothie on the way to work around 8 a.m.. Once I’m hungry again around 10:30, I supplement the smoothie with a serving of oatmeal, typically my banana bread slow-cooker oatmeal or a variation of it. Those good carbs and a breakfast that’s spread out help to keep me full and focused until it’s time for lunch. And what easier way is there to eat a serving of vegetables for breakfast?!
Best Green Smoothie Recipe
- 1 c. dairy-free milk (I usually use almond milk or coconut milk)
- 2-3 large handfuls spinach (about half a bag or small box)
- 1.5 cups frozen pineapple
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1 tsp. spirulina powder (or Skoop Superfood Greens Blend)
- 1 Tbsp. chia seeds
- Blend all ingredients in a high-powered blender. I use a ninja and I need to stop the blender a few times to scrape down the sides. If your ingredients are blending smooth, add ¼-1/2 cup water to help thin it out a little.
